Racial Justice
Across London, longstanding inequalities based on race continue to shape access to opportunities, resources and power in our communities.
For example, a young person facing barriers to education through disproportionate exclusion from school, someone struggling to access responsive mental health support that meets their needs, or a job candidate receiving fewer interview invitations despite having the same qualifications as others.
These experiences are often linked to wider patterns of racial injustice that continue to affect people living in London across education, housing, employment, mental health support, immigration systems and the criminal legal system. We know that injustice based on race does not exist in isolation. It intersects with other characteristics including disability, gender, class, age, sexuality and migration status, creating overlapping barriers and disadvantages for many Londoners.
These inequalities are deeply embedded in the systems and structures that shape people’s lives. We want to help create a London where racial injustice no longer shapes people’s opportunities, experiences or outcomes, where communities have greater influence over the decisions that affect them, and where systems and institutions work more equitably for everyone.
Supporting community-led change
We believe that the people and communities most affected by racial injustice are best placed to help shape solutions. Through this programme, we’re looking to fund organisations rooted in communities who use their knowledge, relationships, and insights to strengthen collective power, challenge the systems that create racial injustice, and shift perceptions to drive cultural change.
The Racial Justice programme sits within our ten-year funding policy, Standing with Londoners. As London’s largest independent funder, we’re continually learning from the organisations, communities and partners we work with and our funding will continue to evolve in response to emerging needs and opportunities.

The Racial Justice programme is currently in development, with research, sector engagement and programme design as the core areas of work. We’ll build on learning from existing funded partners working in the racial justice sector and from insights across the sector, supporting community-led efforts to create more equitable systems and outcomes.
We are developing ways of working, funding and being in relationship with funded organisations that are intersectional, anti-racist and trauma-informed.
We’re collaborating with funders, cross-sector experts and partners, policy-makers and academia, and building evidence through research and analysis, movement-building, and campaigning to deepen our understanding of the racial injustice landscape and shape our programme design. We’ve convened an advisory group to inform programme development and strengthen accountability.

Programme team
Our Racial Justice programme team assess applications and manages grants, working closely with applicants, funded organisations and partners to strengthen our offer, gather feedback and identify emerging trends and opportunities across the sector.
The programme team consists of a Programme and Partnerships Lead and two Programmes and Partnerships Managers, supported by the wider funding team.
